Heat

January16

The sun burned down on me in fiery bundles. It blinded anyone who dared to look up. Sweat rushed down my face in wave like ripples.

We were winning the game and I was playing good, I had even scored, but-

The heat. Oh the undeniable heat. It felt like a massive fire god was throwing hundreds of fire balls down on me—making me feel like I was melting into a human-sized puddle on the ground.

By the end of the game “heat” had turned my face as pink as Cotten candy—and the slightest touch to the skin sent a burning sensation through my whole body.

We ended up winning the game—but I will never forget how hot it was that day. The heat literally burned itself into my memory forever.

I Am From

I am from…..

the warmth of grandma’s homemade hot chocolate melting away your taste buds

watching fireworks blast into the sky and burst into an array of colors on New Years Eve

From hiking through forests of giant towering cedar trees

and sitting on that one giant white bolder with my best friend letting my problems float away with the wind

From horrifying yet hilarious makeovers with my best friends

and sticking my head out the window the moment we reach the Colorado border every summer

From staring at the extraordinary mix of colors that form the beautiful paintings that my great aunt paints

and fearing the long scaly body and the knife like white venomous teeth of a snake

From decorating gingerbread houses with tons and tons of candy every year before christmas

to staying up late, curling up into bundles of blankets reading the night before christmas on christmas eve

from exploring new wonders, as I travel to new places

And wet slobbery kisses from my two black labs

from adrenaline rushing through my body as I kick the ball into the back of the big white net

and smiling so hard it hurts, as I make fun summer memories down at the lake

I am from many experiences, good and bad, experiences that made me who I am today

Rain

October25

I lay wide awake in my soft bed, my head resting on my fluffy pillow. My big comforter is pulled tight around me. I can hear it pounding on my roof, like a thousand giants feet stomping all over my roof. I am terrified that all of it would be to much for the old brown panels of my roof to hold and it would all come collapsing down on me. Outside my window a yellow light, faster then the blink of an eye, illuminates the sky every few seconds. A noise would follow the light, it sounded like a metal trash can lid falling onto the floor, creating a booming sound. Then, eventually, it slows into a gentle pitter patter. Over time my eyelids get heavier and heavier, until I am fast asleep.
